Chronic Fatigue

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a complex condition characterized by persistent fatigue that is not relieved by rest and significantly interferes with daily functioning. The exact cause remains unclear, though research suggests it may involve a combination of immune dysfunction, hormonal imbalance, and autonomic nervous system dysregulation. In some cases, viral triggers such as Epstein–Barr virus may play a role. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome affects women more frequently than men and often develops between early adulthood and midlife, though it can occur at any age. Many patients seek acupuncture for chronic fatigue syndrome as part of a natural approach to restoring energy and improving overall well-being.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome often develops suddenly in individuals who were previously healthy and active, sometimes following a viral illness or another significant stressor. Symptoms commonly include profound exhaustion, body aches, muscle and joint pain, headaches, sleep disturbances, impaired memory and concentration, and increased sensitivity to physical or mental exertion. Additional symptoms may include sore throat, tender lymph nodes, low-grade fevers, allergies, and mood changes such as anxiety or depression. Because symptoms can fluctuate and worsen with exertion, the condition can have a significant impact on quality of life.

Many patients seek acupuncture for chronic fatigue syndrome to help restore energy and improve daily function. Conventional treatment typically focuses on symptom management through medications that address pain, inflammation, sleep disturbance, and mood-related concerns. However, these approaches do not always address the underlying dysfunction contributing to the condition. Traditional Chinese Medicine views chronic fatigue syndrome as a systemic imbalance affecting immune function, nervous system regulation, and the body’s ability to generate and regulate energy. Treatment may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, and individualized guidance for nutrition and lifestyle to support recovery and restore vitality over time.
