Arthritis and Joint Pain

Arthritis is a broad term used to describe conditions that cause joint inflammation, stiffness, and arthritis pain. It can affect people at any stage of life, though it becomes more common with age. The two most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis develops as joint cartilage gradually wears down over time and most often affects the fingers, knees, hips, and spine. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the joints, leading to inflammation, swelling, and progressive joint damage.

Arthritis can gradually interfere with mobility and everyday activities as joint inflammation and degeneration progress. Conventional treatment typically focuses on managing arthritis pain and inflammation through medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs and pain relievers. However, while these approaches may help control symptoms, they do not always address the underlying processes contributing to chronic inflammation. In more advanced cases, surgical procedures or joint replacement may be recommended.

Many patients seek acupuncture for arthritis pain as a natural approach to reducing inflammation and improving joint mobility. Traditional Chinese Medicine views arthritis as a disruption in the body’s internal balance and circulation. Treatment focuses on restoring proper flow, reducing inflammation, and supporting healthy joint function. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy may help improve circulation to affected joints, reduce pain and stiffness, and promote better mobility. Although treatment cannot reverse existing joint deformities, it can help relieve arthritis pain, improve function, and support long-term joint health.
